word.
i'm giving the beats rhymes & life blog a shot, once again.
this time i'm serious, though!
it's pretty simple, really.
i'm a philly cat with a dollar and a dream, a computer and a rack of music creation tools, and i'm on the lowbudget hustle for a name and a claim. short and to the point.
i've had the mc idea swirling around my head since 93. rapping made me feel good. i'd spit along with Dre, Snoop, Daz and Kurupt on The Chronic, and wrote my own little westside raps, tryna match their cadence and swagger. it never left me.
here i am now, thirteen years removed from my first 16 bars, jaded and grizzled, finally deciding to give this rap thing a shot. sometimes i feel i'm in over my head. sometimes i feel like i'm the golden child, the promised one, the messiah... sometimes i feel like i'm just an average bum sharing a common childhood fantasy with a grillion ova niggas. any of these could be true. thing is, i'ma let the people decide. if it dont work by the time i'm 30, i'm bronzing the dream and archiving it.
so... over the past 5 years or so, i've really been working at making myself into a self contained creation/production/presentation vehicle. it's been a slow process... the first 3 were littered with tons of doubt, my own and others', and lack of funds and experience necessary to go at it full throttle. my biggest push was getting a clue regarding computer music production, and getting my hands on a bootleg copy of Fruityloops. since then, i've taken recording classes, slowly pieced together my own studio, created and sold beats, and studied as much as i possibly could.
at this point, the thought of it consumes me. and it's perfectly timed, because currently, the music industry is such that independents like myself have a real chance to be heard, and even greater, to make it. the monolithic model of the big league record label has given way to hundreds upon hundreds of upstart indies and the incredible outreach power of the internet and downloading/file sharing. conclusively then, there's no reason why i shouldn't give it a try.
that leads us here.
i wanna chronicle it. not just recording sessions, not just pictures of the shows i'll ostensibly be doing; i wanna track the whole event, ups and downs, highs and lows, purchases and the like, everything. every nuance of the struggle is exciting and inspiring to me, so i'ma regurgitate it for public consumption here.
so.
to the far right of your screen - a links menu and a kit list. the links menu is pretty self explanatory. kit list is a list of my current music equipment. hopefully i'll be updating regularly, as new stuff comes in. that, though, has less to do with me remembering to update, and more with money.
i hope it's enjoyable, and i hope i'll be able to wrap it up with a big bang.
gyeah!

1st new purchase:
RODE NT-1A studio condenser!
yo.
i can not begin to tell you how long in the making this has been. you'd think an mc would have a mic first right?
anyway.
ive always been scared to purchase mics because they're so tempremental, and it's really hard to guess (without hearing it) how good the mic's going to perform in a real world setting, like my small, but echo-y apartment. i still really don't know, but the price/performance ratio (gathered thru professional and amateur reviews) have been consistently stellar. so, i took a shot and copped one. it should be here no later than next week.
for now, my pre-amping is going to be left to that MX402 board, until i can afford a nice pro-level preamp, or a nice multi channel board.
i have some plans for a new motherboard/cpu and soundcard for the PC, so expect to see those documented in here at some point.
i can't wait to get my first track laid with that mic tho. viva la spit!
