And then he showed these men of will what will really is."

familiar with the cult classic "The Usual Suspects" ?

if so, you'll remember this line as part of Verbal Kint's (Kevin Spacey) monologue telling the myth of the infamous Kaiser Soze.

i'm not one to try to emulate characters from movies, but i think in this instance, the writers had it right.

"One story the guys told me, the story I believe, was from his days in Turkey. There was a gang of Hungarians that wanted their own mob. They realized that to be in power, you didn't need guns or money or even numbers. You just needed the will to do what the other guy wouldn't."

yep.

the will to do what the other guy wouldn't. or won't.

talent is abundant. lots of people got skills. the thing is that success is largely a conscious and premeditated orchestration. that's why the amount of has-beens and also-rans in any field dwarfs the number of successes. 9.5 out of ten niggas DON'T have the will.

sometimes i'm scared i don't have the will. that's why i go at it as hard as i do. i don't like feeling like i don't have the will. and i'm in a rush. to me, in this game, the will would be working when other cats would rather sleep. or holler at girls, or go to a club, or argue on message boards.

dilla had an interview where he mentioned being inspired to get back in the studio to work, when he'd call up pete rock and he'd be in the studio. to him, that meant it was time to get back at it.

so.

what won't these other up&comers do?

*kills them all, their families, their friends, business partners, people that owe them money, employers, burns their beats*

HOV!
