i been remixin.

that's what i been doin. © clarence "strokin" carter

first up:

TI's new single, You Know What It Is (featuring Wyclef Jean). i'm in the habit now of remixing songs that i hate. i don't know that i hate this song, but i think the beat blows. Wyclef alligator armed this one.

not that i flipped it that much better, but most people say my version is at least enjoyable. i'll provide a downloadable link later. i'm secretly hoping that one of these artists hears my take on their work and decides they'd like to hear how well we'd work in a real situation.

i figure if compile enough of these remixes, i can start to mock up that remixtape thing i was talking about doing with jamad.

i try to keep it current and top 40, so that it at least registers with people who are otherwise not very inclined to hear out my kind of music.

i also worked another remix out, hurricane chris' Ay Bay Bay.

this one has a decidedly different feel as well, as i'm trying to establish a sound that people can get familiar with. i don't know that it's there yet, as i have a lot of places i like to venture to musically, and i do whatever it takes to get as close as i can.

there's my typical dirty drum samples and record samples, but i kinda thicken up the drumloop with some kicks and hats from a new VST i just grabbed, Nepheton. it's an emu of the classic TR-808 and yo. it sounds fantastic. i ran the remix through the waves SSL master bus compressor (another emulation that IMO sounds super) and the kicks doubled up sounded so good, i kept the song on repeat and played it through my head phones just to hear the break play.

the remix itself isn't that dope, and probably in the minds of most doesn't hold a candle to the original, but it's my spin. *shrug*.

i'm excited to try to bang a few more out this weekend. remixing is fun. just as long as you can find the bpm, and the bpm HOLDS throughout the whole song.

in other news, i'm closing in on getting that macbook.

it's gonna change the game man. it's a huge investment, but well worth the $. i'm still gonna see what's good with a few more pc laptops before i devote my hard earned cash on a mac... specially since i'm gonna be using FL studio on it...

iono. we'll see. i really just want the portability of a laptop with good processing power and a big drive.

i did a song with donwill this weekend, ostensibly for the OMGz project. it uses a sample though, and to date, che grand ain't on it, so. it may have to find it's way elsewhere. but after a long ass writing session (i'm rusty) a few drunken takes (i was hungover from the night before, what up HOY)

i got my 16 down.

of course, i did the beat.

don murked it too. i'm basically the producer rappin on his own beat. donwill is clearly the mc.

all in all, good coupla days considering i haven't really been focusing on creating.

i'll holla!
