mic hath arrived.
it actually got here last thursday, but wasn't able to take pics of it or use it for a few days, plus i was otherwise engaged over the weekend.
i've done some real loose recordings with it, and it does pick up just about everything there is to be heard. it's an inumerable amount of times better than my old mic, which was basically a cheap dynamic i got from an overpriced record store.
ah, the days of blissful innocence.
so yeah. now i have no excuse.
there are a few things i still need to get. since i've been practicing with recording over my beats, i've noticed that the mic pics up the echos and reverberations in my room very clearly, so i'm going to have to devote some funds to sound proofing, at least a little bit. you can't process a bad vocal take, so i've got to do everything to make sure the first part of the sound chain is as clear as possible.
but man.
i can't tell you what a relief it is to have the Rode here. $160 well spent. i ordered a mic stand last week, and pretty soon i'll have the pop filter for the mic.
now i'm looking for a midi keyboard controller. i've been ebaying off and on, and i hadn't found one in my price range; but alas, i think my price range has just expanded considerably, so that's due, as well as a major cpu overhaul. i've gotta quiet this thing down, if i'm going to be doing vox in the same room as the pc, it's gotta drop a few decibels. i knew it was loud, but WOW. its gotta add at leasty 5 db of white noise to every recording i do.
beats are going well. they pretty much fly off the rack now. my process is slowly cementing itself. once i get a laptop to kind of seperate the every nonsense from the actual music making, my workflow will smooth out that much more, and i'll be wrapping up this EP in no time. i need to get back on the writing, though. i'll admit that i haven't been doing nearly enough as i should in that department.
meh.
out.
